Prevention of doxorubicin-induce renal function abnormalities by turmeric in Wistar rats

Doxorubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic with anti-neoplastic potentials mediated mainly by affecting the DNA synthetic machinery of cell. It found to be effective against a wide range cancers including ovary, uterus, lung, breast etc. exerts its nephrotoxicity on kidney inducing inflammatory changes leading increased capillary porousness and glomerular shrinking. This study investigated effect turmeric renal function biomarkers in doxorubicin-induced oxidative stress Wistar rats. 54 adult rats were divided into 9 groups six animals each. Group 1 served as control (normal saline), group 2 negative control, received doxorubicin, 3 given doxorubicin turmeric, 4 vitamin C, 5 E, 6 vitamins C 7 E while 8 finally, receive turmeric. The experiment lasted for 28 days blood samples collected from each animal various assay. caused significant increase serum levels urea, creatinine, sodium (Na+), calcium (Ca2+), decrease chloride (Cl-), magnesium (Mg2+) potassium (K+). These abnormal electrolyte imbalances prevented administration alone or combination along concomitantly.
